After three months of patrol duty on Midway island flying SBD-5s, VMSB332 returned to Ewa in early July 1944 and quickly converted to the SB2C-1A. Routine training operations continued for the rest of the year, towards the end of which the -1As were replaced by SB2C-3s. A few SB2C-4s were added in January 1945, but on 1 March that year the squadron was redesignated as VMTB332. 20 TBM-3s were received on 6 March and the Helldivers transferred out.
