At the end of 1944 VMSB151 was flying SBD-5s from Wigley Field, Engebi, Eniwetok atoll. As the new year progressed the SBDs were gradually replaced by SB2C-3s, so that by the end of March the squadron had twelve of each type. Flying during this period consisted of inshore patrols and convoy escorts only. On 31 May 1945 flying was secured, the aircraft were transferred, and VMSB151 prepared to return to the US for re-forming as a torpedo squadron.
