The early summer of 1944 found VMSB132 in training at MCAS El Toro as part of Marine Base Defense Air Group 41, flying the SBD-5. In June, SB2C-1As replaced the SBDs and the squadron continued training with the Helldiver until late October. A change of function was signalled on the 14th of that month when the designation changed from VMSB to VMTB, and in early November the squadron re-equipped with TBF-1s.
