Curtiss Helldivers for the Navy were built in a new plant at Columbus, Ohio. The first SB2C-1s were accepted in September 1942, and the final SB2C-5s in October 1945. To meet urgent wartime demands Helldivers were also built by two Canadian companies, Canadian Car and Foundry of Fort William (as the SBW), and Fairchild Aircraft of Longueuil (as the SBF).
A further 900 Helldivers, designated A-25A, were built for the US Army at Curtiss-Wright's St Louis factory. In early 1944, 410 of these were modified for service with the Marine Corps as the SB2C-1A.
